With the announcement of a further 3 weeks in lockdown, what are you doing to occupy yourself if you’re stuck at home? If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, small or large then now is the time to spend in it, getting fresh air, listening to wildlife and just doing some general maintenance. You’ll thank us for the distraction later! If you don’t have a garden then don’t worry about that, why not look into house plants or creating a garden in a jar? – Fun for you and the children.
So, what can be done in your garden during this period of lockdown? Tidying, planting, growing, fence painting (if you can find any paint…) We just want to give you a few tips and tricks on how to keep your garden looking good over the next 3 weeks!
Planting – This can be done in pots, flowerbeds or maybe something a little more unusual like an old sink or bathtub. Many garden centres and nurseries are closed due to lockdown, but they are delivering so you are still able to get hold of fresh plants & flowers! By adding a little bit of colour to your garden it can really uplift a mood. If you aren’t much of a gardener but do want a flash of colour in your garden, then Geraniums tend to be quite hardy plants and don’t require loads of maintenance just deadheading every so often and a bit of water!
Seeds – Fancy a bit more of a challenge than planting already grown flowers? Why not get some seeds and start growing your own! You could get fruit and vegetable seeds and try growing your own produce. Or why not plant a sunflower seed for each member of the family, name them, and see who grows the tallest sunflower!
Wildlife – Why not try and encourage some wildlife into your garden? From songbirds to hedgehogs. If you catch a glimpse of a wild animal, it’s sure to brighten your day. You could do something as simple as a bird bath and a few seeds for the birds. Ordering or making your own ‘bug hotel’ to encourage different invertebrates to take up residence in your garden or offer shelter for hedgehogs to hide in.
These are just a few of the many things you could do in your garden to keep you occupied and busy. If you do any maintenance and want to show it off why not share it with us on our social media channels using the hashtag #WNICGarden!
