Back in the 80s when Ice, Ice Baby by ‘Vanilla Ice’ first hit the airwaves, I was a schoolgirl and the world was a very different place. 30 years on we know that Vanilla Ice’s music career was short-lived, however his trendsetting lyric Alright stop, collaborate and listen has never been more relevant than it is in the workplace in 2020, And here’s why.
Over the last 20 years, the Landscape Architecture industry has changed considerably. The complexities of projects have greatly increased due to the pressure of climate change, urbanisation, social issues and mental health. It’s not enough for a project to just create a beautiful place, it must also address issues of environmental degradation and social inequality whilst also supporting economic development and building a sense of community. Balancing the needs of humankind with a sound knowledge and respect for our natural environment is more relevant today than ever before. The intricacy of projects and the needs of the end users is becoming more challenging and as the challenges grow, so does the importance of a collaborative design process.
When the opportunity arose for Mood Landscape to form a working partnership with Wharton Natural Infrastructure Consultants, we seized it wholeheartedly, knowing that this collaboration would enrich our design process. Working together as a multi-disciplinary team allows us to approach every project holistically. Together, we gain a detailed understanding of the existing natural resources of a site from the outset which underpins our decision-making process.
We are excited to stop, collaborate and listen to each other in order to use our combined creativity and expertise to address the complex challenges we are facing head on. In doing so, we can create places for people where we live in balance with and connected to nature.
